Our early childhood education (ECE) classes are comprised of mixed-age groups, with both 3- and 4-year-old children together. Each ECE classroom has a teacher and an instructional assistant, and have about sixteen students. Powell’s ECE uses the play-based Creative Curriculum.

The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool is one of the most widely used pre-K curricula in the nation. It is comprehensive, research-based, research-proven, and it features exploration and discovery as a way of learning — as well as bilingual!

All grades K-5 follow the Dual Language Education model, meaning that 50% of the classes are in English and 50% are in Spanish. Math and Spanish Language Arts are taught in Spanish. Science and English Language Arts are taught in English.

Kindergarten has a teacher and an instructional assistant in each classroom, while 1st-5th grades have one teacher with support provided by Special Education teachers and Interventionists. Average class size is about 20 students per classroom.

Our Language Arts teachers use the DCPS curriculum and Math teachers use the Eureka curriculum, which is a bilingual Math curriculum. For Science, we use STEMscopes. We also use Lexia, Zearn and ST Math as blended learning programs to supplement student academic development.
