Raquel Carson, Assistant Principal
Raquel is re-joining the Powell family after completing her Principal Residency as part of the New Leaders Aspiring Principals Program at AppleTree Early Learning Public Charter School. While at Powell, Raquel served as a grade level and Flamboyan Family Engagement lead. She supported school-wide professional development and initiatives around language acquisition and bilingual education. She has co-presented at national bilingual education conferences including La Cosecha and NABE (National Association for Bilingual Education). Prior to entering the classroom, Raquel worked in education communications for federal and national organizations including National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and Lumina Foundation. She has a Master of Arts in teaching from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from George Washington University. She also holds her licensed for Elementary Education and Administrative Services from the DC Office of the State Superintendent.
Theodore C. Hinton, Jr. , Dean of Culture
I was born in Apex, N.C. I attended Tuskegee University where I received a Bachelor of Science in Biology/Chemistry. I also received a Master of Art in Urban Studies from George Washington University. I have worked with the D.C. Public schools for over forty years and have been a science teacher, assistant principal, principal, mentor principal and Dean of Culture.
