Brian Blacklow, Instructional Coach
Brian Blacklow is beginning his first year as an Instructional Coach at Powell ES and is excited to collaborate with and learn from the amazing Powell ES team! Brian spent the last two years as a LEAP Leadership Coach. In that role he was responsible for supporting LEAP Leads at multiple DCPS schools (including Powell ES) as they support their school-based colleagues and students. Prior to becoming a Leadership Coach, Brian spent three years with DCPS supporting teachers across the district and eleven years teaching in Mississippi and North Carolina. In addition to being an award winning teacher, Brian chaired the School Improvement Team, facilitated workshops across the curriculum for peers, and was President of the Asheville City Association of Educators. He also pioneered Chess Clubs at two schools. A product of Maryland public schools, Brian chose to attend public colleges and universities as well. After attaining his Bachelor’s Degree from The Evergreen State College in 2001, Brian achieved National Board Certification in 2008 and earned his Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Western Carolina University in 2010. He currently lives in Silver Spring, Maryland with his wife and two kids.
Cassandra Davenport, Technology Instructional Coach
Cassandra Davenport works at Powell as the Technology Instructional Coach. For eight years, she taught 4th/5th grade as a multiple subject teacher, as well as 6-8th grades as a math, science and technology teacher in California. While serving as an 8th-grade Algebra teacher, she became invested in technology integration as she helped initiate a 1-to-1 tech device program at her middle school in Santa Cruz. She was a member of the Technology Integration Cadre for Santa Cruz County Department of Education, where they explored best practices for integration. Ms. Davenport also holds a Google Certificate for Education and is a Microsoft Innovative Educator. As a native of Michigan, Ms. Davenport began her work with education through a Bachelors degree from Michigan State University. She also has a Masters in Educational Technology with an emphasis on Classroom Technology Integration.
